About Me

Hi! My name is Lola Jahant, and I'm from Dallas, Texas. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Journalism with an emphasis in writing/reporting and a business minor. I love to write, but I am passionate about all things journalism-related. I would love to have the opportunity to grow as a leader and am eager to gain more real-world experience.

Growing up, my grandmother, whom we refer to as Nammie, always told my sisters and I stories of her father, who was the head of press at the New York Times. We gathered around the kitchen table, starry- eyed, listening to stories of our great-grandfather, who, as my grandma claimed, was secretly pulled into a janitor’s closet to be told of the Watergate scandal by reporters. Oblivious to it at the time, but what I thought were my only childhood stories were really seeds planted in my dreams of being a journalist.

In Mrs. Taylor’s first-grade class, we got a gold star on the classroom wall for each short book we wrote. I, being both a writer at heart and competitive with myself from a young age, had a plethora of stars next to my name, producing books at an abnormally fast pace. In fourth grade, I anchored for the morning news broadcast, K-Paw. Whether it was through dramatically describing the lunch menu or recognizing student success stories, my passion for storytelling continued to grow.

I’m not sure if it was a course requirement or just what my friends were doing, but something inspired me to join yearbook in middle school. I fell in love instantly, prioritizing all my time for writing and looking forward to my yearbook class over anything else. I stayed in yearbook through high school becoming Editor in Chief my senior year. There was no question in my mind when the time to make college decisions arrived; I would major in journalism.

At the University of Missouri, my love for journalism has only flourished. I was fortunate enough to get involved with many journalism-related opportunities. While writing is my main passion, I pride myself in being a versatile multimedia journalist. I have dipped my toe into all realms of journalism including strategic communications, television and audio through the Dallas Morning News, KDFW Fox 4, D Magazine, the Columbia Missourian, CBS Sports and more. I am always eager to learn more and perfect my craft as a journalist.

From first grade to now, telling others’ stories is what drives me as a journalist. I adore sitting down and connecting with all different kinds of people, learning about experiences and groups I would have never known about otherwise. There is nothing more rewarding than having the ability to be the eyes and ears of the public. It is something I do not take lightly and am constantly looking to gain more knowledge and experience on.
